The roots trace back to 2003, when Antonio Álvarez Sr. acquired his first shrimp trawler, in the vibrant coastal city of Manta, Ecuador, converting it to catch sardines for fishmeal. Seafood Oceano began with a bold mission: to bring the rich bounty of the Pacific Ocean to tables around the world. What started as a small family-run operation has grown into one of Ecuador’s leading seafood export companies, trusted for its commitment to quality, sustainability, and service.
Seafood Oceano was created by a team of passionate fishing industry professionals with decades of collective experience in wild-caught and aquaculture operations. Driven by Ecuador’s reputation as a top seafood-producing country, the founders saw an opportunity to combine traditional fishing practices with modern processing and global logistics to serve an international market hungry for fresh, traceable, high-protein seafood.

From the very beginning, Seafood Oceano focused on the harvest and export of premium fish and shellfish from the nutrient-rich waters off the Ecuadorian coast. Within just a few years, the company expanded operations to include a full fleet of longline and trawl fishing vessels, along with partnerships with artisanal fishers across Ecuador and northern Peru.
To meet increasing demand from international buyers, the company built state-of-the-art processing plants in Ecuador equipped with the latest freezing, packaging, and cold-chain systems. These facilities meet the most rigorous international standards, including HACCP, BRC, and EU certification, ensuring that every shipment of Seafood Oceano products arrives fresh, safe, and ready for global distribution.
By 2012, Seafood Oceano had expanded its export operations to over a dozen countries.
